Therapy
Description
Interdisciplinary training in developmental disabilities
is available to occupational therapy students. The purpose
of this clinical training is to acquaint the student with
the interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment
and the role of the occupational therapist in a clinical
setting. Objectives include
- orientation to the roles of a variety of disciplines in
occupational therapy
- selection, administration, and interpretation of appropriate
tools used in assessment
- planning and implementing treatment strategies for the
person with developmental disabilities
Traineeships/Fellowships
Fellowships are offered for long-term
master's or doctoral level students.
Short-term training of one-half day to one week is available
for baccalaureate-level or master's level students. Workshops
or lectures are available as the need arises. Consultation
to community and state agencies is offered upon request. Under the direct supervision of the BCDD
occupational therapist, opportunities are provided for evaluation,
treatment, and monitoring of people with various developmental
disabilities. Participation in staff conferences, in-services,
and interdisciplinary leadership courses provides a well-rounded
experience.
Training experiences are available throughout
the year. Training occurs within the BCDD and through training
and service affiliations with community-based programs.
To be eligible for a stipend, applicants
must be United States citizens or non-citizens admitted to
the United States as permanent residents.
