Social Work

Purpose

The social work training program at the BCDD is rooted in the interdisciplinary approach to serving children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.

Objectives

  • understanding of family dynamics and relationships
  • developing skills in the micro system approach
  • utilizing various treatment modalities in working with psychosocial problems of individuals, families, or groups
  • developing competency in macro system intervention skills.

Description

Aspects of training are basic to professional preparation for social work and include an emphasis on psychosocial factors. The majority of social work trainees are graduate students in the second year of clinical and/or community and management practice training. Some first-year graduate students with high academic standing and qualifying experiences may be considered for training.

Who can Apply

A limited number of stipends are available for second-year graduate trainees. Applicants for stipends must be citizens of the United States or non-citizens admitted to the United States as permanent residents, with no other means of financial support. These individuals must be preparing for a career in social work services in the field of developmental disabilities.
