Typical Curriculum in Biomedical Engineering and Imaging

Typical semester patterns for course selection with project, thesis, and dissertation effort that leads to a thesis-based MS degree followed by a Ph.D. Graded courses for the regular curriculum appear in italics. Including the optional electives, more than 72 credits of such work are shown in the schedule. The minimum graduate school requirement for the Joint Program is 57 credits. Students and their faculty committee agree on the actual number of credits; few take the number shown. Some courses can be chosen from lists; others are chosen with the consent of the faculty advisor and committee. The term "engineering choice" is understood to include applicable course work. Experience-based (project, thesis, and dissertation) and pass-fail courses are shown in roman font in the middle of the box. Exams associated with the doctoral degree are shown at the bottom of the cells in ALL CAPS.

For the clinical orientation, a number of 1-credit courses provide exposure over the time to training; these are shown at the bottom of the cell. A number of 3-credit regular academic courses could be taken in the available regular hours. Further explanation appears on our web site, http://www.uthsc.edu/bme/.
