The Master of Science Program in Epidemiology is enhanced by a K30 Clinical Research Curriculum Award from the National Institutes of Health. This award supports the development of courses and mentors to advance the skills, research methods, and career direction of health scientists who want to translate fundamental scientific discoveries into patient-oriented clinical treatments.

"The program's long-term goal is to produce clinical researchers who can successfully compete for research support and are knowledgeable about the complex issues associated with conducting sound clinical research."

With the benefit of the K30 award, the graduate program in epidemiology will improve clinical research training in several ways:

  • by expanding the current curriculum with new courses designed especially for and by clinical research scientists;
  • by enhancing mentoring of clinical fellows and junior faculty interested in clinical research;
  • by establishing tuition assistance for a selected number of qualified students in the Master of Science Program in Epidemiology;
  • by offering web-based, self-paced learning with four core courses in clinical research, for 12 credit hours leading to a Certificate in Clinical Research.

To apply for enrollment in the K30 clinical research curriculum of the Master of Science Program in Epidemiology, interested applicants should follow the standard directions for applying to the Master of Science Program in Epidemiology (see directions on the program website at http://www.utmem.edu/prevmed/pm/msepiprogram.html) and should mention their K30 interest when completing the "Essay/Goal Statement" area of the application form.
